Ethiopia plans to earn 1.5 billion U.S. dollars from coffee exports during the current Ethiopian 2022/2023 fiscal year that started on July 8, an Ethiopian official said.

The revenue is planned to be earned through the exports of 320,000 metric tons of coffee, state-affiliated media outlet Fana Broadcasting Corporate reported Tuesday, citing Adugna Debela, Director General of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.

Debela said Ethiopia plans to focus on value-added coffee exports to reach the 2022/23 fiscal year record revenue target.

“Intensive Ethiopian coffee promotion activities are planned to be undertaken during the current fiscal year in dozens of countries, including in the emerging market of China,” the official said.

As Africa’s biggest coffee producer, Ethiopia sees growing potential in China’s booming coffee market as the East Asian country becomes one of the largest importers of Ethiopian coffee.

Ethiopia earned a record 1.4 billion U.S. dollars from 300,000 metric tons of coffee exports during the 2021/2022 fiscal year that ended on July 7.

Ethiopia, which is known as the origin of Arabica coffee, is recognized worldwide for its rich coffee quality and flavor, which ranges from winy to fruity and chocolate, making the country’s coffee varieties on demand across the globe. Enditem
