An Ethiopian official on Tuesday commended deepening ties with China as both countries prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Ethiopia and the People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations in 1970, with the two countries in recent years forging closer economic, political, social and cultural ties.
Speaking to Xinhua, Nebiat Getachew, spokesman for the Ethiopia Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said a Chinese delegation led by Hu Jinbao, vice chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Henan sub-council, is visiting Ethiopia this week as part of the continually deepening ties between the two countries.
“Ethiopia State Minister of Foreign Affairs Aklilu Hailemichael has welcomed the Chinese delegation which arrived in Ethiopia on Monday evening with the two sides currently discussing on ways to elevate the bilateral trade and investment relations.
“The Chinese delegation reiterated its commitment to work with Ethiopia on a range of economic areas including agriculture and tourism, as well as affirmed commitment to help build the capacity of local Ethiopian workforce,” Getachew said.
Getachew said he expects more high-level Chinese delegations to visit Ethiopia in the coming months to boost bilateral ties as the anniversary of the golden anniversary of establishment of ties approaches.
“China is a major destination for Ethiopian products and is at the forefront of foreign investments to Ethiopia. Chinese investments to Ethiopia have created a successful co-partnership with Ethiopian partners,” said Getachew.
He said Ethiopia’s infrastructure expansion drive, its favorable geographic positioning, favorable climate and the availability of an educated, easily trainable workforce have attracted many Chinese investors to invest in Ethiopia. Enditem
