Ethiopia’s biggest anti-corruption drive has snared a Brigadier General.
Brigadier General Ephrem Bange was charged together with other unnamed collaborators currently on the run, of squandering about 9 million U.S. dollars of funds set aside for Kuraz sugar project in Southern Ethiopia, according to local media outlet Radio Fana on Thursday.
The squandering of the 9 million dollars caused the delay in the Sugar project, the charge sheet reads.
The Ethiopian government has identified corruption and rent seeking activities as part of the reasons Ethiopia was rocked by sweeping unrest in 2016.
The Ethiopian government has since promised to crack down on grand scale corruption which has afflicted one of the world’s fastest growing economies and East Africa’s largest economy. Enditem
