Barnsley boss Keith Hill made his first signing of the summer tonight with the capture of Nigerian Kelvin Etuhu on a free transfer.
The forward signed a one-year deal after deciding against re-signing for Portsmouth, who he has played for since January.
Etuhu, 24, started his career at Manchester City and has had loan spells at Leicester, Cardiff City and Rochdale, where he worked with Hill and assistant David Flitcroft.
The new signing told Barnsley Football Club’s official website: “They (the fans) are going to get a player who will get them off their seats, definitely. They’ll get a lot of commitment from me as well. You will see the best of Kelvin Etuhu this year – that’s a fact!”
Etuhu is looking to get his career back on track after a troubled year. He was given an eight-month prison sentence in March 2011 after being found guilty of assault outside a Manchester casino. Upon the conviction, he was released by Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.
