The European Union (EU) on Wednesday extended a 5.8 million U.S. dollars grant to Zimbabwe to support the promotion of human rights, access to justice and citizen participation in policy dialogue for development in the key areas of health, governance and agriculture.

The funds are from the 11th European Development Fund and will support four projects that are to be implemented by international and local civil society organizations within 30 to 36 months in different parts of the country, the EU said in a statement.

The projects include advocacy on children’s and particularly girl’s rights, strengthening access to justice for marginalized and vulnerable groups such as women and children, strengthening civil society organizations’ role in public accountability, and improving the capacity of CSOs that provide social support to vulnerable people in detention.
