The European Union (EU) has made available 7.7 million Euros to support organizations of the civil society in the implementation of the Program for the Consolidation of Economic Governance and Public Finance Management Systems in the Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (PALOP) and East Timor.

Announcing the funding on Tuesday in Luanda, Paulo Leitao, the project manager, said the program is to be implemented in an overall period of eight years split in two phases, being currently in the second phase.

The project, which is the result of a strategic partnership between the EU and United Nations Development Program, aims to improve and make more effective the external, political, judicial and civil control of public policies in the PALOP and East Timor towards more efficient use of public resources, Leitao said.
