Madam Catherine Abelema Afeku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Adjomoro Gwira Constituency, has donated a 33-seater fully air-conditioned bus to the Nsien Senior High School (S.H.S) in the Nzema-East Municipality.
The donation of the bus formed part of the fulfilment of her campaign pledge during the December electioneering campaign.
The MP who is an old student of the school, noted that the bus would serve as a means of transportation for the students and teachers of the school whenever they travelled for activities.
The Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister pleaded with the school authority to ensure good maintenance culture of the bus to last longer.
“Through my lobbying skills I have been able to lobby to get a new bus from the Ministry of Local Government and I therefore charge you to put this bus into a good use”, she said.
She also promised to acquire new buses for other schools in her Constituency and expressed the hope that the bus would help the school to carry out its duties.
“The gesture forms part of my promise towards quality education in the December 2016 general elections to provide buses for Senior High Schools in my Constituency and I’m happy my former school is the first school to get and I will make sure other schools get”, she emphasized.
“I love Nsien S.H.S so much because it is this school that has made me a personality in this country so I will forever remember this school”, she said
The Lawmaker used the gathering to advise the students to take their education seriously and tasked them to desist from indulging in acts which would be inimical to their studies.
She also charged them to respect and be disciplined in all their endeavours.
Mrs Afeku urged them to use her as their role model, adding when I was in the school I took my studies seriously.
“Use me as your role model and learn hard because at our time, there was no electricity but we used lanterns and candles to study each night but we passed well and here am I, so stop wasting your precious time on watching uneducated programmes on televisions”, she emphasized.
She used the occasion to wish the final year students success and asked them to pray hard for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government.
She also commended the teachers and school authority for instilling discipline in the students.
Mr Aboagye Mochiah, the Headmaster of the school, thanked the MP for the support given to the school.
He assured the MP of taking proper care of the bus and assured regular maintenance to enable it last longer.
He praised the MP on the great works she has embarked on and therefore appealed to the gathering to support the MP and rally behind her to maintain her seat in 2020 to ensure continuity of the works she has started.
Mr Samuel Atta Oteng, the Board Chairman of the school also expressed his profound appreciation to the MP and the NPP government for honouring the school with this bus.
He also used the ceremony to ask of the Lord’s blessing on her and long life and appealed to the MP to help the school with other facilities.
The Board Chairman said Madam Catherine Afeku is a good leader and reposed confidence in her that with more years given to her, more developments would be seen in the school and the Constituency as a whole.
“Hon Catherine Afeku is a good leader, she has done well because we didn’t request this bus from her but she brought to us a surprised gift”, he revealed.
The school pastor who is also the PTA Chairman, Rev. Anthony Nyame prayed for the MP and asked for God’s protection and long life for her.
