The ousted former president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, on Wednesday presented his new website, which portrays him as the region’s president-in-exile.
In a Twitter post, Puigdemont directed his followers to the website president.exili.eu, on which the deposed leader continues to be referred to as “president Puigdemont.”
The Spanish central government dismissed Puigdemont’s secessionist regional leadership after the Catalan parliament in Barcelona voted to proclaim an independent republic on Friday. As part of its intervention, Madrid blocked the regional government’s websites.
Puigdemont departed Barcelona for Brussels along with several members of his ousted cabinet on Monday. Since arriving in the EU’s capital, he announced that he would continue to fight for Catalan independence.
In Spain, he has been charged with rebellion, sedition and misappropriation of public funds.
