Some fans in Assin in the Central Region have expressed disappointment over the abysmal performance of the Black Stars in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

The Black Stars lost 1-0 in the opening Group C against the Atlas Lions of Morocco, drew 1-1with Gabon, and finally lost 2-3 to the Coelacanths of Comoros.

Some disappointed fans who spoke to the GNA Sports shared their views on the performance of the Black Stars.

Mr. Kofi Nimo, a Barber, said it was difficult to come to terms with the Black Stars’ exit from the AFCON at the group stages.

He stated that if someone had told him before the commencement of the competition that the Black Stars would not qualify to the next stage after the group matches, he wouldn’t have believed it.

Mr. Nimo, however, noted that Ghana could have done better with a better coach.

Mr. Philip Kyereme, a chemical seller, laid the blame on the doorsteps of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the late arrival of some players in the national team.

According to him, their inability to train enough to blend with the playing style of others was sad.

He said the GFA should have intensified their engagements with the foreign-based players earlier for their early release to train ahead for the competition.

Madam Aku Ameyaw, a trader said she had to close her shop earlier to watch the Black Stars match, only to be defeated by a country like Comoros.

She said perhaps the Black Stars underestimated the Coelacanths, hence the defeat.

Later, she charged the players not to be overconfident going forward, but to play each match as if it was the final game of the competition and victory shall be theirs.

Mr. Emmanuel Frimpong, a taxi driver, said the coach should be given ample time to train the players devoid of interferences.

He said the huge bonuses should also be looked at critically as many Ghanaians lamented that the same government complaining of money was dishing out huge sums to the Black Stars”.
