The Verity Farmers Association in Sankro a community in Effutu Municipality has asked the government to consider the Association and provide it with a dam under its ‘One Village One Dam’ project.
Papa Amarh, Chairman of the Association, made the call at a ceremony to present tools including 80 spraying machines, a numbers of cutlasses, Wellington Boots, Water cans, and Hoes to members.
According to Papa Amarh the more than 200 members were into green and other types of pepper, Tomatoes, groundnuts, cassava, sweet potatoes, corn and other farm products mostly supplied to market women at Agbobloshie, Accra.
He said the rainfall pattern of the area, especially during the dry season brings their farming activities to a halt due to non-availability of water making life unbearable for them, adding, “We are calling on the government to come to our aid by constructing dams to boost production”.
Earlier, Member of Parliament for Effutu, Mr. Afenyo-Markin commended them for forming the Association and urged them to continue to live in unity and share ideas to enable them access support as and when needed.
The MP underscored the importance of small and medium scale businesses to the alleviation of poverty and emphasised the need for them to improve on their livelihood.
He promised to bring farm experts on board to equip them with modern farming practices and skills for them to improve their activities to produce quantities of yields.
The Association expressed its appreciation to the Mr. Afenyo-Markin for coming to their aid and assured that members would make good use of the items to expand their farming activities.
