Dr Issah Sugri, Senior Research Scientist at Council for Research- Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) advised farmers to apply manure or fertiliser on their farm land before planting their crops.
He shows the farmers that they should spread the manure or fertilizer on the surface of the land to inject into the soil and they should also mix the manure or fertilizer with the surface layers of soil for all their farming and horticultural land you must plan before planting seed.
Dr Sugri gave the advice in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale, saying farmers should manage the fertilizer or manure they use to work out the nutrients your soil or crop needs.
He explained to the farmers that they should monitor the weather conditions and forecasts at the time they want to apply manure or fertilizer on your land to avoid washing away the manure or the fertilizer.
He advised the farmers not to use fertilizer on waterlogged, flooded or snow covered soil when the soil has been frozen for more than 12 hours in the past 24 hours.
Dr Sugri said it is very vital for farmers to test the soil which must not be more than five years at the time of application of the fertiliser or manure to cultivated agricultural land.
