A tragic vehicular collision involving a fully loaded DAF tanker carrying 54,000 litres of petrol and three other vehicles has resulted in one fatality and left two individuals critically injured at Asiakwa Junction in the Eastern Region.
The incident on Monday, July 29, 2024, sparked a massive fire that engulfed the tanker and two Mazda Demios, causing extensive damage. The Hyundai truck involved also suffered partial damage in the collision.
Firefighters from Bunso, Kyebi, and Anyinam, under the leadership of ADO I Samuel Doe from Bunso Fire Station, responded with remarkable speed. Despite their valiant efforts to contain the blaze, substantial damage was inflicted on the vehicles involved.
Trapped victims were rescued by the fire service and immediately rushed to Kyebi Government Hospital for urgent and life-saving medical treatment.
Tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by a fire service report on Tuesday, July 30.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision and fire. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to manage the aftermath of this devastating incident and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
