Fatau Dauda has been backed to keep his number one status

Nassam Yakubu Gives Full Backing To Ghana Goalie Fatau Dauda Ahead Of  Egypt Showdown

Black Stars goalkeepers? trainer Nassam Yakubu has backed Fatau Dauda to remain the country?s number one ahead of the 2014 World Cup play-offs against Egypt.

Dauda has come under criticism following some mistakes he made during the group D decider against Zambia early this month at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

The Orlando Pirates shot-stopper was a bundle of nerves in post for the Black Stars with his poor anticipation becoming a major talking point in the West African country.

There have been calls for the immediate return of veteran Richard Kingson ahead of the big showdown against the North African country in October and November.

But Yakubu believes that the ex-Ashantigold glovesman can piece back together his dented confidence.

?I?ve got every faith in Fatau Dauda,? Yakubu said.

?I don?t know what people are talking about. Yes, he made one or two mistakes in the game against Zambia. But who doesn?t?

?It happens sometimes. I have a top-class goalkeeper that I?m working with and I?m pretty sure he?ll be getting the headlines for all the right reasons again.

?I?d defend him, it would take more than one game before we lost faith in a guy who has been No 1 since the Nations Cup.?

?We should not do anything to dent his morale. He?s a fantastic goalkeeper who just needs support rather than condemnation.?
