The Zoomlion Company, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Sanitation Task Force and the New Juaben Municipal Assembly, led the people in the municipality to clean the city as part of the National Sanitation Day at Koforidua.
Madam Faustina Sharday, the Deputy Regional Manager of Zoomlion said, because the exercise took place for the first time most people concentrated on cleaning their homes.
She said, in order to have effective cleaning exercise, areas of work were divided among groups of shop owners, market women, drivers, students and the security services.
Mr. Ernest Donkor Attoklo, the Eastern Regional Head of Zoomlion, advised the public to desist from indiscriminate disposal of waste and should not see the cleaning of the environment as the work of only the Zoomlion and the government.
He called on the District and Municipal Assemblies in the region to enforce their sanitation bye-laws and consistently educate the people on good sanitation.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Kwaku Owusu Achampong, said even though many people did not turn up as expected, the exercise was a good start.
he MCE commended the public especially the students of Ghana National Senior High School for participating in the exercise.
