The first week of 2019 in Mozambique is one of the deadliest as 37 people were killed and 71 others injured in 36 accidents nationwide, said Mozambican police on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, if we have to compare to the same period of last year, we had an increase of two more cases, as we registered 37 deaths and 71 injured,” said Inacio Dina, the police spokesperson.

The police said the economic losses are also large, in addition to the mourning that those accidents brought to victims’ families.

According to the police, most of the accidents are vehicle running over pedestrians, followed by out-of-control cars rolling over, and the collision caused by speeding, mechanic faults and priority violation. Enditem
