Reverend George Shem Kwame Kwadey, the Kadjebi District Pastor of The Church of Pentecost, has asked the citizenry to forgive one another and avoid ‘an eye for an eye’ situation to save the world from blindness.

He said there was the need to let go because we were born differently and often offended each other every day.

He said forgiveness was the best option as ‘an eye for an eye’ would make the whole world blind.

Rev. Kwadey, who was giving a sermon on the theme: “Forgiveness” at the Kadjebi Central Assembly Chapel of The Church of Pentecost at Kadjebi in the Oti Region defined forgiveness as an act of forgiving.

He said although it might be difficult to forgive, one needed to do so since God had also forgiven our sins when we offended him.

The Man of God who described forgiveness as vertical and horizontal, said in whatever way, forgiveness was necessary.

He said though in the olden days, it was ‘tit for tat’ or ‘do me, I do you, God no go verse’, matter; it was good to forgive one another if we wanted to progress as individuals or as a country.

Reading from Matthew 18:21-22, Rev. Kwadey said one ought to forgive “77 times” as told by Jesus Christ.

On the story of the woman caught in adultery (John 7:53-8:11), he said when Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives and was teaching, the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery and they were demanding she be stone and Jesus asked, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone” and when they heard this, they slipped away one by one because we were all sinners.

Rev. Kwadey said self-righteousness is a sin all people are guilty of, but often oblivious to in their own selves; adding Jesus’ encounter with the woman caught in adultery exposes this pharisaical, hypocritical tendency in us all.

He said in forgiving is peace, love, understanding and God’s blessings abounds.
