Major General Samuel Nii Anum Odotei (Rtd.), a former Army Commander, has called upon the government to prioritize the provision of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) resources in Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country.
Speaking at the launch of Labone Senior High School’s 75th-anniversary celebration themed “75 Years of Academic Excellence: Celebrating Our Past and Empowering Our Future Through Technology,” Major General Odotei stressed the critical role of ICT in preparing students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
He highlighted the need for more ICT laboratories, proper maintenance of existing resources, trained ICT teachers, and reliable power supply to support school ICT infrastructure.
“Introducing ICT tools and computers in areas without an adequate power supply is futile because these devices need consistent power to function effectively,” Major General Odotei emphasized.
He underscored the importance of equipping young people with technological skills to leverage faster access to information, flexible study options, and enhanced media literacy, which is crucial for global competitiveness.
Expressing his satisfaction with Labone Senior High School’s educational impact, Francis Lamptey, a member of the Labone Old Students Association (LOSA), commended the institution for nurturing thousands of students and contributing positively to their development.
Reflecting on the school’s achievements, Madam Rejoice Akua Acorlor, the Headmistress of Labone Senior High School, affirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining its reputation as a premier secondary school in Ghana.
She pledged to continue enriching the learning experience by integrating cutting-edge technology, fostering creativity, and equipping students with essential skills for success in a dynamic global environment.
The year-long anniversary celebration will include various activities, such as health walks and gaming events, to foster camaraderie and celebrate the school’s rich heritage of academic excellence.
