Mr Patrick Akpe Kwame Akorli, the immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of GOIL PLC was decorated for his outstanding contributions to Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector at the prestigious Ghana Downstream Awards and Gala Night held in Accra.

The maiden edition of the Ghana Downstream Awards and Gala Night held in Accra climaxed the 2024 Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GHiPCon) organized by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in collaboration with the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distribution (CBOD) and the Association of Oil and Marketing Companies (AOMC), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy.

The Communication for Development and Advocacy (CDA Consult) monitored the event. This non-governmental organization for development communication advocacy brought together all the industry stakeholders to promote synergy and a high level of ethics within the sector.

Mr Akorli, who joined GOIL PLC in 1994, served in various capacities as a casual worker, Accountant, Chief Accountant, Treasurer, Controller, Internal Auditor, Chief Internal Auditor, and Finance Manager until he was appointed MD and Group CEO in 2012 and exited in 2019.

In June 2019, before his retirement in November, he was appointed to a new portfolio as the Chairman of the GOIL Group of Companies, with a specific focus on GO Energy, a subsidiary of GOIL, to continue contributing to the development of the GOIL brand.

Mr Akorli, also known as Togbe Adza-Nye IV, Dutorfia of Ziavi in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, was lauded for his visionary leadership, innovative strategies, and commitment to excellence.

Under his tenure, GOIL PLC experienced significant growth, expanded its network, and improved customer satisfaction.

Mr Akorli’s honour is a testament to his dedication and impact on the sector.
This recognition solidifies Mr Akorli’s reputation as a leading figure in Ghana’s energy sector and underscores his legacy at GOIL PLC.

The Ghana Downstream Awards and Gala Night aims to promote best practices, recognize excellence, and encourage healthy competition within the industry.

 

Others who were also honoured include the Managing Director of GO Energy, a subsidiary of GOIL PLC, Mr Gyamfi Amanquah, for his outstanding contributions to Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector at the prestigious Ghana Downstream Awards and Gala night.

Mr Amanquah, a seasoned professional with years of experience in the energy industry, was lauded for his leadership and vision in driving GO Energy’s success.

His dedication to quality, customer satisfaction, and innovation has positioned GO Energy as a market leader.

Mr Yaw Agyeman Duah, the former GOIL MD, was honoured for his significant contribution to the industry and for playing a critical role in forming and growing the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMC).

The late Mr Alex Josiah Adzew, the former Chief Operating Officer of GOIL, was posthumously honoured with a special recognition award for his outstanding contribution and transformational leadership as the company’s first Chief Operating Officer.

In a related development, on the same night, GOIL PLC was honoured for its outstanding contributions to the petroleum downstream sector and for being a pioneer in the retail sale of petroleum products across the country.

GO Energy was also recognized as the Bulk Import Distribution and Export Company of the Year.

The awards reflect the company’s leadership qualities and dedication to providing quality fuel services for the petroleum industry countrywide and for being a highly respected company advocating for best business practices in the sector.

The Public Relations Manager of GOIL, Mr Robert Kyere, told journalists that the entire GOIL Group was highly grateful for the recognition, adding that the awards reflect the company’s unwavering focus on exceeding customer expectations while adhering to rigorous quality standards.

“We dedicate the awards to our valued customers for their unflinching support and to the entire staff and frontline workers of GOIL,” Mr. Kyere added.

The GOIL Public Relations Manager said the Board, Management, staff, and operators of the numerous GOIL filling stations across the country will continue to work hard to distribute quality fuel choices for all and always set the benchmark as the industry leader with credibility and reputation.
