Visiting former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday met Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to discuss business and investment opportunities in the country.

Obasanjo, who is also the chairman of the South African-based think tank Brenthurst Foundation, was accompanied by Brenthurst Foundation executive members Nicholas Oppenheimer and Gregory John Barrington Mills, state news agency New Ziana reported Thursday.

Obasanjo told reporters soon after meeting Mnangagwa at State House that they were in the country to seek investment opportunities.

“I have along with me some people who have interests in investing here in Zimbabwe. That is what we have come here for,” he said.

“We cannot talk of development without investment, domestic investment, foreign investment and regional investment. The meeting went on very well,” said Obasanjo.

Obasanjo said political stability remained crucial to attract investors.

“Political stability, security and predictability are preconditions for healthy economic development and investment,” he said.

Obasanjo said he also discussed with Mnangagwa the need to ensure beneficial economic cooperation between Zimbabwe and Nigeria. Enditem
