A four-story building under construction in the Ugandan capital Kampala collapsed on Sunday, trapping several people under the rubble, authorities said.
“Excavators are on the ground trying to dig up the rubble,” a police statement said. “More details will be coming in shortly.”
The incident occurred in Buziga, a Kampala suburb.
Hassan Kihanda, police commissioner in charge of disaster and rescue operations, was quoted by local media as saying the cause of the building’s collapse is not yet know.
So far two people have been rescued and the number of those believed to be trapped under the rubble still remains unknown, Kihanda said.
The last such incident to happen in Kampala was in 2016, when a building collapse killed three people and injured more than 10 others. Poor workmanship and inadequate building materials were blamed for the collapse. Enditem
