The Fourth edition of the Damang Goldfields PGA tournament was on Tuesday launched at the Goldfields West Africa Regional Office in Accra with a sponsorship money of GHȼ140.000.00.
The prestigious tournament, which is scheduled for Damang has received a massive sponsorship boost from Goldfields, would commence from November 29 to December 2, 2017.
Mr Kwame Mintah, president of PGA Ghana, addressing the media, congratulated Goldfields for the supporting the tournament, saying “through the massive sponsorship from Goldfields and other corporate bodies the tournament has gained interest from the rest of Africa.
“We hope with Goldfields and our prestigious sponsors we can make the subsequent years better…and we are always and ever grateful for them for this our biggest event on the PGA’s year calendar”.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Alfred Baku, Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa, Goldfields, said they have not set any limits to sponsors of the tournament, and that, getting other sponsors on board would even strengthen the game and help it to get the necessary mileage it deserves.
Mr Baku noted that for the first time in the tournament there would be “the seniors playing alongside juniors, with an introduction of Caddies’ tournament”.
According to him clubs around the country would have to present two Caddies each to compete, where the top five would get a full set of golf sets.
He further noted that the golf course would be stretched for the professionals to get longer holes to make it easy for them when they travel to play outside.
The tournament, which starts from Wednesday November 29 and ends on Saturday December 2, would have the winner taking home GHȼ25,000.00 for the professionals, with the winner of the senior taking home GHȼ5,000.00.
Many high profile dignitaries including Goldfields Group CEO Mr. Nicolas J. Holland is expected to grace the tournament.
Other corporate bodies sponsoring the tournament include Zen petroleum, Engineers and Planners and a host of others.
