On Tuesday afternoon, two Virginia Beach men in the 5700 block of Glen View Drive were attacked by a fox believed to be rabid, according to a city animal control spokesman.

At 3:45 p.m, one man was bitten multiple times by the fox when the animal attacked him while he was weed-eating his yard, said Wayne Gilbert, spokesman for Virginia Beach Animal Control. The man was able to escape and call 911. He was later transported to the hospital.

A couple hours later, another man in the same block of Glen View reported that a fox climbed a fence and attacked him in his yard, Gilbert said. The man defended himself with a brick, killing the animal. The man drove himself to a hospital for treatment.

The fox will be sent to the Department of Health for?rabies?testing, Gilbert said. The cause remains under investigation by the police department?s animal control unit.
