Franklin Cudjoe, founder and president of IMANI Africa, has sharply criticised Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame’s handling of the ambulance case involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and two others. Cudjoe likened Dame’s actions to those of an Attorney General prosecuting enemies in a communist regime.

Cudjoe argued that the case, which should never have reached court, wasted state resources, especially since Richard Jakpa, the third accused, had agreed to refund the monies he received for supplying ambulances.

Speaking on *The Big Issue* on Channel One TV, Cudjoe expressed concerns about the motivations behind the prosecution, suggesting it appeared politically driven. “The state invested so much time and energy in trying to nail Ato Forson that it created suspicion about the involvement of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta,” Cudjoe said. He added that the Attorney General seemed more focused on persecution than justice, leading to a loss of respect for the office.

Cudjoe remarked that Dame’s behaviour was reminiscent of an Attorney General in a communist regime. This sentiment followed the Court of Appeal’s decision on July 30 to acquit and discharge Dr Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa, overturning a trial judge’s order for Forson to present his defence.

The Attorney General’s office has indicated plans to challenge the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
