Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has voiced strong confidence in John Dramani Mahama’s ability to combat corruption more effectively than the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
During a town hall meeting at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Monday, August 12, Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), committed to holding public officials accountable if elected, positioning this as a central element of his anti-corruption strategy.
Despite facing criticism from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Cudjoe told Citi News that he firmly believes in the credibility of Mahama’s promises, more so than President Akufo-Addo’s.
“I can understand the scepticism, but let’s not forget, President Akufo-Addo is not John Mahama. We have seen both in action. Akufo-Addo has frequently contradicted his statements,” Cudjoe emphasized.
He criticized Akufo-Addo’s handling of issues like the controversial “haircut” on debts and the government’s approach to illegal mining (Galamsey), which he claimed had worsened environmental conditions despite previous assurances.
Cudjoe asserted, “Despite my reservations, I trust John Dramani Mahama more than President Akufo-Addo. Unfortunately, Akufo-Addo has failed to uphold his commitments on these critical issues.”
Cudjoe’s remarks reflect a broader debate on the effectiveness of current and past leaders in addressing corruption and fulfilling campaign promises.
