It would be recalled that, in response to the petition submitted to the President of the (NTF) following the peaceful demonstration held on June 15 by the Concerned Black belts/Freedom fighters, Mr. Otu, at a press conference made his position clear on the various grievances stated in the petition.

At his press conference, Mr. Otu asserted that he was elected by the General Assembly during an extra-ordinary congress. However, according to the Freedom Fighters and concerned Taekwondo Black belts, Mr. Otu was elected in accordance with the electoral provision in the National Taekwondo constitution to hold the fort as the interim president, when the substantive National President of the Federation and his vice resigned seven months before the end of their term in office.

A Press release issued on Wednesday and signed by a member of the group, Prosper Kudjoe, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said per the Federation and the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) constitutional provision, an election was supposed to have been held to elect a substantive president and the executives into office when the interim period elapsed on June 4, 2014. But, the supposed election never took place, which the Freedom Fighters and concerned Taekwondo Black belts believe was due to some manipulations and abuse of power in order to perpetrate the interim president (Mr. Otu’s) stay in office.

It said that the President has been found to blatantly defy laid down regulations and procedures enshrined in the National Taekwondo/WTF constitution and acts on his singular jurisdiction. A case in point is he, using authoritative discretion to form a pseudo-association and appointed his own favorites into executive positions, thereby creating a counter association resulting in division, fear and panic.

Also, Mr. Out displayed disrespect to the Director General of the National Sports Authority and the opinions and suggestions of members and senior members of the Federation to single-handedly take and implement decisions that are supposed to be binding on all members of the Federation.

The statement said, during Mr Otu’s press conference he stated that he does not know how much funds are paid to players each month by the Ghana Olympics Committee (GOC) as solidarity funds. According to the Freedom Fighters, such statement by a President of such a reputable association is very irresponsible.

According to the Freedom Fighters/concerned Taekwondo Black belts, Mr. Otu, having thus succeeded in hanging on in office, over the period, has been sighted for abuse of executive powers by resorting to certain authoritative and undemocratic tendencies.

The Freedom Fighters and concerned Black belts also clarified their position in the statement, saying that, that they do not seek the resignation of Mr. Otu on grounds of personal vendetta, nor do they seek to vilify him for any political expediency. But they wish to appeal to his conscience in accordance with the National Taekwondo constitutional requirement of his illegal stay in office.

The concerned Black belts reiterated their position that Mr. Otu’s continued stay in office is doing more harm to the Federation than good and thus, demand his resignation.
