The contingent named Gamcoy 18 has finished its 12- month term in Sudan, replacing the 17th batch of Gambian soldiers deployed for UN Peace keeping operation in the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur.
Some top officials of Gambia Arm Forces including the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Yankuba Drammeh were at the airport to welcome the arrival of the peacekeepers.
On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the Gambia Arm Forces and President Yahya Jammeh, the Major General Yankuba Drammeh thanked the soldiers for the good services they have rendered to Sudan.
“Thank you for the job well done, the good service you rendered during your tenure as peacekeepers in the protracted region of Darfur,” Drammeh said.
The contingent was replaced by the Gamcoy 19 which has also been waiting for days before departing for the mission. Enditem
