In a bid to compliment the effort of the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government dedicated to raising the level of awareness on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), the Senator representing Lagos East ?Senatorial District, ‘Gbenga Ashafa has lent his voice to the ongoing sensitization on the preventive measures required to curtail the spread of the Ebola virus.
The lawmaker made these facts known over the weekend during his regular weekly empowerment programme for constituents in the senatorial district.
?In his words, Ashafa opined that ?it is unfortunate that the dreaded disease has found its way to our beloved country at this trying time.
However, I will implore Nigerians to always avoid ?contact with high risk animals like fruit-bats, monkeys and forest antelopes. It is also best, in the meantime, to avoid the consumption of bush meat, and refrain from contact with infected persons. We should cultivate the habit of washing our hands with soap always, and above all, we should not hesitate to report persons whom we suspect to have the Ebola virus to the nearest health centre immediately “.
Senator Ashafa extended his good gesture by donating free bottles of hand sanitizer lotion to all those who attended the empowerment programme and urged them to maintain the highest degree of personal hygiene at all times.
Beneficiaries at the empowerment programme were selected from Somolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu-Central, Ikorodu-North, Ikosi-Ejinrin, Ikosi-Isheri and Surulere. They were presented with various tools and equipment such as sewing machines and tailoring accessories, vulcanizing machines, deep freezers, refrigerators, power generating sets, hair dryers and salon accessories, grinding machines, aluminium cutting machines and welding machines.
The lawmaker ?advised the beneficiaries to put their tools and equipment to maximum use.
