The rate of new COVID-19 infections in Germany continued below peak times as the number of confirmed cases increased by 1,018 within one day to 155,193, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Monday.
At the height of the pandemic in Germany, more than 6,000 new infections with the coronavirus had been recorded in a single day by RKI, the federal government agency for disease control and prevention.
The estimated number of people in Germany who had already recovered from COVID-19 increased by around 2,500 within one day to 114,500 on Monday, RKI noted.
Death toll from the new coronavirus increased by 110 to 5,750, resulting in a 3.7-percent case fatality rate in the country, RKI added.
The coronavirus pandemic posed a “huge challenge” for all member states of the European Union, said Chancellor Angela Merkel in her podcast on Saturday.
Now it was important “to show that we belong together, that we will deal with the damage, the economic consequences of this crisis and that we want to do everything possible to ensure that Europe grows together in this situation,” she said. Enditem
