The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that no military personnel will be deployed to polling stations during the December elections.
In a statement issued by the military high command, it was emphasised that the GAF’s involvement will be strictly limited to providing backup support to the Ghana Police Service, and its personnel will only be called upon if needed.
The statement further encouraged the public to report any instances of military officers being seen at polling stations on election day. Ghana is set to go to the polls on December 7, 2024, to elect a new president and members of parliament.
Special voting has already begun across the country, although the process in the Eastern and Western Regions has been delayed until December 5. This delay follows the recall of ballot papers by the Electoral Commission after the discovery of a leak.
