Ghana on Friday commenced the registration and instant issuance of national identity (ID) cards to all Ghanaian citizens, both at home and abroad, as by law prescribed.
President Nana Akufo-Addo received his instant national ID card called Ghana Card to officially kick-start the process.
The Executive Director of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Ken Attafuah, told the media recently that his outfit was ready to provide Ghanaians with a modern robust national ID system and a smart ID card that would meet the modern aspirations of Ghanaians and carry them into the future.
The new Ghana Card has been enhanced to take advantage of new technologies such as tactile elements for the blind, chip embedding technology and iris capabilities and can be used as a pass to other countries in the West African bloc.
Ultimately, the card will replace the sectorial identity cards in circulation, and shall be the only card to be used in transactions where identification is required as provided by law. Enditem
