Ghana’s Edwin Gadayi secured gold in the men’s 100-meter race at the ongoing Confederation of Africa Athletics Region II Championship in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on Tuesday.
Gadayi clocked 10.28 seconds to beat his closest contender, Nigeria’s Israel Okon, to second place at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The pacy Ghanaian, a silver medalist in the 4x100m relay at the 13th African Games held at the same venue in March, surged past Okon in the last 30 meters of the race.
Gadayi’s time of 10.28 seconds, however, falls short of the Olympic Games qualification mark.
