The awards, the 24th in the series, was instituted in 1989 to acknowledge and encourage outstanding achievement in the export sector and to formally recognise the contribution of exporters in the Non-Traditional Export (NTE) sector to economic development.

It is also to commend exporters for exporting quality products and for breaking new grounds; to encourage higher levels of performance by exporters; to sustain the interest of exporters in the export trade; and to raise and sustain export consciousness among Ghanaians in general.

Celebrated on the theme: ?Celebrating Exports Excellence,? exporters won awards in different categories. These include Special Honorary, Gold, Platinum, silver, Most Diversified Exporter, Export Services, Woman Exporter of the year and Exporter of the year.

Commenting on the award, the General Manager of the Ghana News Agency, Dr Bernard Otabil, said the recognition of GNA in this category was appropriate and timely.

“Over the years, we have demonstrated not only competence in news gathering, processing and dissemination, but also a commitment to be truthful and unbiased in our reportage.

?We have become the preferred media choice for both the private and public sectors in Ghana, therefore, the award recognising our close collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority to disseminate export development and promotion news in Ghana is timely and appropriate”, Dr Otabil said.

“In fact, this award is dedicated to all the hardworking staff at the Agency,” he added.

Niche Cocoa Industry Limited was adjudged the Exporter of the Year, while Mrs Margaret Tweneboa-Boateng of Excel Industries Limited, Producers of Aluminium Household utensils, won the Woman Exporter of the Year Award.

The Chinese Embassy in Ghana was also recognised for Trade Promotion.
