Ghana FA’s Normalization Committee (NC) on Sunday expressed its full backing for Kwasi Appiah, the head coach of the senior national soccer team Black Stars, as Ghana aims to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt later this year.
In a statement issued in Accra by its Spokesperson Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the NC said Appiah enjoys the total support of the NC as he gets ready to kick-start preparations for the AFCON.
“The coach will be given every support possible, to enable him to function at the optimum as Ghana seek to win the AFCON for the first time in over three decades,” said the statement.
The release came a few days after local media reports quoted the president of the NC saying that his outfit will give Appiah the boot if he fails to clinch this year’s AFCON trophy for Ghana.
However the Ghana FA said it has no interest in putting pressure on Appiah, but will rather provide the necessary mechanism to facilitate his role in achieving the nation’s quest.
According to the Ghana FA, performance clauses worldwide are acceptable in contracts, hence the introduction of same in Appiah’s adding that while this is an international practice, the NC believes the coach’s ability.
“We wish to call on Ghanaians to throw every support spiritually and physically behind coach Appiah and the team, to achieve the common goal of winning the trophy in Egypt,” the release said.
The 2019 AFCON, with its new 24-team format, will be held from June 15 to July 13. Enditem
