Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, former CEO of Ghana National Gas Company and current President of Ghana Hockey, has announced his candidacy for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Executive Board.

The seasoned sports administrator seeks one of five available positions in the upcoming elections, pledging to leverage his experience in sports development and corporate leadership.

Asante outlined a three-pillar agenda focused on personnel training, facility upgrades, and financial mobilization for sports. “I offer myself to contribute to Ghana’s sports advancement at the Olympic level,” he stated, emphasizing his track record in supporting underfunded disciplines like hockey. His background combines active sports participation with executive experience, including overseeing Ghana’s gas infrastructure development.

Romeo Oduro, former PRO of Ghana Gas, endorsed Asante’s bid, citing his industry connections and fundraising potential. “His network can unlock crucial sponsorship opportunities for Ghanaian sports,” Oduro noted, predicting a strong electoral showing for the candidate.

The GOC election comes as Ghana seeks to strengthen its Olympic programs following mixed performances at international competitions. Asante’s corporate governance background and sports advocacy position him as a candidate bridging administrative expertise and athletic development priorities.

With delegates preparing to vote, the sports community watches whether Asante’s vision for systemic investment in personnel and infrastructure will resonate in a sector craving sustainable growth strategies. The outcome could influence Ghana’s preparedness for future global sporting events.
