M-Net Regional Director for West Africa, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu has announced that from 1 October 2015, the channel would be introducing a ?Ghana Block? to the Africa Magic World channel.
She said that will be run as a 4-hour prime time content block which will begin to create local content for that block and see how the market reacts to it.
Mba-Uzoukwu said that Africa Magic would be building on the Original Movies project which the channel started in 2013 by commissioning Africa Magic Blockbusters to create local films that are fit for theatrical release, as well as broadcast on DStv.
?What that project is also going to do is allow for more job creation in the content delivery value chain,? she said.
The Ghana?s Block will have strictly general Ghanaian content on movies, entertainment. Already M-Net has had discussions with the section of industry players in Ghana and what they expect from Ghanaian industry is a very good content.
?This is not to say that we do not have Ghanaian movies on M-Net, but what the Ghana?s Block does is have purely Ghanaian content and not any mix of content,? Efosa Aiyevbomwan, PR and Talent Lead at M-Net explained it further to Daily Express.
M-Net said Ghanaian movie industry is improving and also increasing and as much as suppliers want to put their content on African Magic channel and want to find out how to do that, they also want to partner with them, increase their own content offering opportunity to Ghanaians. ?We need mutual benefit between M-Net and the Ghanaian industry,? he stated.
According to Aiyevbomwan, because African Magic is known for its quality, they also expect quality content on story line and technical output from Ghanaian industry.
?M-Net?s vision is to create channels for each homogenous target market for Southern and Eastern Africa , be it by language, culture, taste or a combination thereof,? said M-Net Regional Director: East and Southern Africa & Lusophone countries, Theo Erasmus at the MultiChoice Content Showcase in Mauritius.
The MultiChoice Africa Content Showcase is a dynamic 5-day content extravaganza, which sees a host of DStv?s biggest channels, including Sony, SuperSport, Zee World, A+E, Disney, MTV Base, BET, Comedy Central, BBC and M-Net previewing their latest and greatest content, soon to be seen across the video entertainment services provider?s platforms.
