Outspoken Ghanaian movie actress, Xandy Karmel, has categorically stated that Ghana has no movie industry until the movie players come together as a body.
The ‘Beautiful Pooley’ as she is affectionately called in an interview with Anning Ogee Oscar of Dess FM 90.3 said she nearly cries when she compares Ghana’s current industry to that of Nigeria, saying Ghana’s movie industry is nothing to write home about with the divided front.
“We have no movie industry in Ghana until we come together as one. We have various movie tribes in Nigeria but they classify all under Nollywood. In Ghana there is discrimination as Twi movies, called Kumawood because it’s made in Kumasi and the glamour ones are referred as Ghallywood forgetting that Ghallywood Ghana Movies. Is Kumasi not part of Ghana?” She quizzed.
Xandy Karmel has been in the movie industry for some years now. She has worked with some outstanding actors like; Lilwin, Akrobeto, Bill Asamoah among others.
She is one of the few Kumawood stars to have entered into Nollywood, featuring in Nigerian movie “Beyond Love”.
