The Ghana High Commission to the United Kingdom (UK) and the Republic of Ireland has addressed concerns raised in a recent article by GhanaWeb, published on August 8, 2024, titled “UK Protest: Ghanaians in the UK lament over neglect by High Commission.”

The article referenced comments made by Kofi Marfo, a Ghanaian journalist with Rainbow Radio UK, who alleged in an interview with Channel One TV that the High Commission had been silent and unresponsive to the needs of its nationals in the UK.

In its response, the High Commission expressed regret over the accusation of inaction, describing it as both inaccurate and unhelpful given the current circumstances.

The Commission stated, “Despite the irregular and sporadic nature of the nationwide riots, we have diligently monitored the situation and maintained communication with the leaders of registered Ghanaian Associations across the UK during these unprecedented events.”

The High Commission reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to safeguarding the interests of Ghanaians in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

“We assure all nationals, including those with dual citizenship, that the High Commission will continue to uphold its responsibilities under the Geneva Convention, ensuring the protection and defence of all Ghanaians and individuals of Ghanaian descent,” the statement concluded.
