Ghana’s junior swimming team has arrived in Cairo, Egypt, to participate in the Africa Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, scheduled from April 30 to May 4, 2025.

The delegation, led by Ghana Swimming Association President Delphina Quaye a newly elected board member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) includes swimmers Yemen Cornie, Oduma Agyei, Michael Crabb-Mann, and Johnson Gyarko, under the guidance of coach Kenneth Ankrah.

Treasurer of the Ghana Swimming Association, Ms. Farida, expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, citing rigorous preparation. “They have trained diligently and are ready to showcase their talent on this continental stage,” she said. The event offers young athletes an opportunity to gain international experience and compete against peers from across Africa.

In a related development, Mohammed Muniru, formerly Secretary of the Ghana Swimming Association, has been elected Secretary General of the GOC. His appointment underscores ongoing leadership transitions within Ghana’s sports administration, aligning with efforts to strengthen governance ahead of major competitions.

The championships mark a critical milestone for Ghana’s aquatic sports, aiming to nurture future stars and elevate the country’s profile in regional swimming circuits. As the team vies for medals, their participation reinforces Ghana’s commitment to developing youth talent across diverse sporting disciplines.

The event highlights Ghana’s investment in junior athletics amid broader administrative reforms. With seasoned leaders like Quaye and Muniru steering key institutions, the nation seeks to harmonize grassroots development with strategic governance. While the immediate focus remains on Cairo, these efforts could pave the way for sustained success in international aquatics, bridging gaps between potential and podium achievements.
