Ghana introduced a new Knowledge and Skills portal on September 17, 2024, becoming the second country in Africa to launch such a platform.
The portal was officially inaugurated in the Ministry of Education and Communications on September 17.
Developed by Npuntu, a Ghanaian-owned company, with support from MTN and funding from the World Bank, the portal aims to provide students across all levels of education with access to a wealth of knowledge from any location.
Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful highlighted the platform’s significance during the launch, noting its alignment with the approved curriculum and its integration of artificial intelligence and other advanced features. She emphasized that while Egypt is the only African country with a similar platform, Ghana’s portal promises to be the most advanced.
“The portal will empower students by equipping them with the necessary information in the digital age,” Owusu-Ekuful said. “The inclusion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) modules is a noteworthy addition, enhancing the skills of technical students.”
The platform will also serve as a commercial avenue for Ghanaian publishers, allowing them to upload and sell digital copies of their work.
Education Minister Dr Yaw Adutwum praised the ongoing transformation in Ghana’s education sector but expressed his frustration at political critiques of the system’s performance.
