The head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars Kwesi Appiah on Thursday named a 30-man squad for the senior national team’s 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Ethiopia as well as two international friendlies in June.
Appiah, who took charge of the team early this month, handed call ups to seven home-based players, as he expects to use thee matches to grant opportunities to new players to showcase their talents, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said.
Defenders Rashid Sumaila and Jerry Akaminko have all returned to the side with goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey and attacker Majeed Waris also named in the squad for June’s games.
The AFCON qualifier is scheduled for June 11 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The team will then travel to the United States of America two weeks later where the Black Stars will face Mexico on June 28 and the U.S. national soccer team on July 1.
The team is expected to assemble in Accra on May 29 to begin preparations for the upcoming assignments. Enditem
