The Ghana Police Service has invited Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, to assist in an investigation concerning the dissemination of false news.

The invitation follows the circulation of a video on social media showing Asiedu at the Wontumi FM studios in Kumasi, where he allegedly makes misleading statements regarding the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

In the 2-minute, 57-second video, Asiedu falsely suggests that voters should cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate dates. The police have expressed concern that such misinformation could disturb public peace and undermine the electoral process.

Asiedu is expected to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to assist with the investigation. The police have urged media professionals to exercise caution and integrity in their reporting, particularly as the nation approaches the critical election period.

The police also warned that spreading false news could have severe consequences for public order both before and after the elections.
