The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unveiled the fixture schedule for the upcoming 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
The schedule notably excludes midweek matches to reduce travel strain on participating clubs.
In an announcement on Tuesday (23 July), the GFA confirmed that the league would commence from Friday, 6 September 2024, to Monday, 9 September 2024, spanning all nine Premier League centres without official midweek matchdays.
“The GFA, in a statement, explained that This decision was made to alleviate the travel strain on clubs,” thereby optimizing player and team preparation amidst competitive fixtures.
Instead of midweek matches, the GFA has planned to use these slots for clearing outstanding games by clubs engaged in the 2024/25 Africa Inter Club Competitions or for rescheduled fixtures, ensuring a fair and balanced schedule for all teams.
The 2024/25 season will encompass 34 weekends, culminating on Sunday, 8 June 2025. This will allow clubs ample time to comply with CAF’s Club Licensing requirements before potential participation in the 2025-26 continental tournaments.
Additionally, the Premier League will observe a one-week hiatus leading up to the 7 December 2024 National Elections. This strategic decision will allow players and officials to fulfil their civic duties across the country, ensuring the league’s smooth running.
The season’s finale, the Champion of Champions match, is scheduled for Sunday, 1 September 2024. It promises an exciting conclusion to the league campaign before the official commencement of matches.
