Ghana FA Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Darra, has rued the nation?s decision to overlook CAF?s proposal to replace Morocco as hosts of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The ex-BBC sports broadcaster revealed his regret after observing the organised measures adopted by the World Health Organisation to ensure an Ebola-free tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

Before the start of the tournament in Equatorial Guinea, every participating team and fan had to be screened in Malabo before entering into the Central African country.

?It (AFCON) will have a huge effect on football in their country. It?s the reason why personally I rued the call from certain quarters that Ghana should not host the Africa Cup of Nations in the place of Morocco,? Darra told Starr Sports.

?If you look at it, the World Health Organization has brought top-notch doctors here to take care of issues like Ebola. They?ve also brought lots of facilities which will be left in the country so if we had taken that opportunity, probably we would also have benefited,? he added.

Ghana had an opportunity to step in as the host nation after Morocco?s withdrawal over fears of exposing the North African country to the Ebola virus. But, Equatorial Guinea accepted to host the AFCON 2015 and had less than 60 days to prepare for the continental competition.
