Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul has announced plans to deploy security personnel to all border towns in Ghana, with a particular focus on the northern regions, to prevent the smuggling of grains to neighbouring countries.
This measure is part of the government’s broader ban on grain exports, which aims to mitigate potential food shortages caused by recent droughts.
Nitiwul emphasized that deploying security forces is intended to safeguard the nation’s food supply and protect citizens.
“We will be deploying security personnel across borders, particularly in the northern regions, as well as to the east and south,” he said. “We urge citizens to support the security agencies.
If you observe any suspicious activity or unapproved routes, please report them so we can take appropriate action.
This is for the benefit of all to prevent hardship among our people.”
