Ghana is preparing to host the 6th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) in Accra on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

The summit, themed “Building a Secure and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea Region for Sustainable Development,” aims to review the GGC’s progress and explore strategies to advance its cooperation, peace, security, and sustainable development goals among member states.

The Gulf of Guinea Commission, established to foster collaboration among Gulf of Guinea countries, focuses on conflict prevention, management, and resolution.

Key areas of concern include border demarcation and natural resource management within overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration announced that the summit will be preceded by meetings of the Council of Ministers on August 5, 2024, and the Committee of Experts on August 4, 2024, all taking place at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The high-level gathering is expected to reinforce member states’ commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development, ensuring a secure and prosperous future for the Gulf of Guinea region.
