Rev. Dominic Yeo, Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship (WAGF), has expressed enthusiasm about Ghana hosting the WAGF meeting for the first time.

Speaking at a press conference, Rev. Yeo noted that this marks a significant milestone in the 110-year history of Assemblies of God. It’s a moment of pride and excitement as Africa, specifically Ghana, is hosting such a high-profile event for the first time.

This meeting is part of the preparations for the World Assemblies of God Congress, a significant event that will bring together thousands of delegates and participants from around the world. The Congress, which will be held in Accra in 2026, is a platform for sharing knowledge, fostering unity, and discussing key issues facing the global Assemblies of God community.

The World Congress of Assemblies of God, which began in Seoul, Korea, in 1994, is held every three years. Previous Congresses have been hosted in cities including São Paulo, Brazil; Indianapolis, USA; Sydney, Australia; Lisbon, Portugal; Madras, India; Springfield, Missouri, USA; and Singapore. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the baton for the 2026 Congress was handed to Ghana during the 2023 event in Madrid, Spain.

Rev. Yeo highlighted the global impact of the Assemblies of God movement, which traces its origins to the Azusa Street revival in the United States, considered one of the greatest revivals in history. This movement has connected us all, transcending geographical boundaries.

The Ghana Assemblies of God, which has been active for 93 years, was established with support from the US church and has made substantial contributions to Ghana’s development, including establishing health and educational facilities. Hosting this event is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the country, as well as enhance its global reputation in the religious community.

“Ghana, as an important member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, has made enormous contributions to the body of Christ,” Rev. Yeo said, emphasizing the country’s significant role in the Fellowship. Ghana’s contributions have not gone unnoticed and are deeply valued.

Globally Assemblies of God is 110 years old, tracing its root to the Azusa Street revival in the US regarded as the greatest revival experienced in the world’s history. The Ghana Assemblies of God is 93 years old. It was pioneered by the US church. The Ghana Church has contributed significantly to the growth and development of Ghana in all aspects of the nation’s life. The world congress in Accra, will be the first time the World Assemblies of God Fellowship will be holding its congress in Africa. The choice of Ghana for the upcoming congress was informed largely by the peaceful and free environment Ghana has had over the years. Ghana has demonstrated that it is the beacon of hope for Africa by democratically and peacefully, electing the political leadership every four years. Ghanaians continue to co-exist peacefully, irrespective of their political, religious or ethnic differences. We commend all Ghanaians for their tolerance, and urge that the upcoming elections, be held in the same peaceful manner as the previous ones. We in Assemblies of God Worldwide, are standing with you in prayer because the scriptures enjoin us to pray for nations in which we dwell, so we can worship our God in peace. We believe that all political, security and other actors in the electoral process will do their jobs well in the interest of peace.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Assemblies of God is one of the largest and fastest growing denominations globally. There are currently more than 170 members of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, representing more than 442,000 Churches and 85 million adherents. The purpose of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship is to pursue the fulfilment of the Lord’s command to evangelize the lost in the shortest possible time, providing them the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel in all its fullness, by encouraging and assisting one another, promoting harmonious relationships, and seeking the most effective means of its accomplishment under the dynamic leadership of the Holy Spirit. We are a church with the future in mind. The next Generation Commission (NGC) of the global Fellowship exists under its MM33 agenda, to perpetuate the Spirit-empowered legacy to children and youth, create interactive relational environments for national/regional/global leaders, and form strategic partnerships among existing and emerging networks to strengthen the future of the Assemblies of God. Our fellowship has various wings. Some of these are: – Church Health, Church Planting, Missions, Next Generation, Theological, etc.

Our church is socially relevant denomination. We embark on major world social action interventions for communities in distress. We are actively involved in disaster intervention through Convoy of Hope. Last year, a total amount of $25,000 worth of goods was donated to victims of spillage of the water from the Akosombo dam here in Ghana.

Under its MM33 programme, the Fellowship is in a collaborative to engage in the greatest work of evangelism, discipleship, and church planting the world has ever seen.  MM33 has an ambitious goal to plant 1million churches by 2033. The Lord has equipped us for such a time as this. We are now, more than ever, a globally connected Movement of God spanning many countries. We’re seeking the Lord and taking steps to grow to one million churches by the 2000th anniversary of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and the Day of Pentecost in 2033. The mission shall continue from then and beyond!

The World Congress in Accra in 2026. It is another major step to push forward the agenda of winning more souls for the Lord.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, God willing, we shall see you all in 2026!

God bless you.
