Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has called for enhanced economic partnerships between Ghana and Spain, emphasizing the need to strengthen trade relations and explore new manufacturing, technology, and renewable energy opportunities.

Speaking at a Business Forum in Madrid, Asiamah-Adjei highlighted Ghana’s emergence as one of Spain’s leading trading partners in West Africa. She cited vital exports such as cocoa, fruits, oil, gas, and precious minerals.

In return, Spain exports automobiles, machinery, electrical equipment, and chemical products to Ghana, which bolsters economic ties and supports Ghana’s digitalization and innovation efforts.

The minister underscored Spain’s strategic role in Ghana’s industrialization agenda, mainly through initiatives like the One District, One Factory (1D1F) policy to boost industrial development across the country’s regions. “Spain, with its rich experience and expertise, is well-positioned to be a vital partner in these sectors,” she stated.

Asiamah-Adjei praised the contributions of Spanish firms operating in Ghana, such as GB Foods, Elecnor, and Indra, which have made significant investments in infrastructure, energy, and agro-processing. “These firms are crucial to our renewable energy sector and technology development, contributing to our economic growth and the transfer of critical skills,” she added.

Looking forward, the minister encouraged deeper collaborations in agriculture, manufacturing, and energy, stating, “We are here in Madrid seeking strategic solutions and partnerships that will lead to scalable infrastructure development and modernization of our key industries.”

She expressed optimism regarding the potential for Ghanaian businesses and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to leverage Spanish expertise to become more competitive in European markets under the existing economic partnership agreement.

Asiamah-Adjei affirmed that Ghana remains one of Africa’s most stable democracies and is committed to creating an investor-friendly environment through ongoing regulatory reforms. “Tailor-made and sector-specific incentives are designed to ensure Ghana becomes the preferred destination for investment in West Africa,” she noted.

The forum is anticipated to foster new business partnerships and investment opportunities, further strengthening the economic ties between Ghana and Spain.
