Two Ghanaian boxers, Holy Dorgbetor and Enoch Tetteh Tetteh, have drawn national attention as they prepare to compete in the World Boxing Council (WBC) Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from April 17 to 20, 2025.

The featherweight tournament, featuring 32 global contenders in its opening round, offers a platform for emerging talent to advance in one of boxing’s most prestigious circuits.

Dorgbetor, nicknamed “The Jaw Breaker,” received a public endorsement from his promotional team, Ace Power Promotions, which urged him to “make yourself, us, and Ghana proud” ahead of his debut. The Accra-based fighter, known for his aggressive style, is joined by compatriot Enoch Tetteh Tetteh of Bukom Boxing Gym, a historic hub for Ghanaian boxing talent. Both athletes have vowed to deliver standout performances, aiming to progress beyond the initial stage of the knockout-style tournament.

The event marks a critical opportunity for Ghana to reinforce its boxing pedigree on the international stage. While the country has produced legends like Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey, recent years have seen fewer breakthroughs in global competitions. Dorgbetor and Tetteh’s participation underscores efforts to revive grassroots interest in the sport, particularly in Bukom, a coastal Accra neighborhood renowned for cultivating world-class fighters.

Ace Power Promotions, which manages Dorgbetor, emphasized the significance of the Grand Prix as a career milestone. “This is about more than individual glory—it’s a chance to reignite Ghana’s passion for boxing,” a representative noted, though no direct quotes beyond the initial goodwill message were provided.

The Riyadh tournament arrives amid renewed investment in boxing infrastructure across West Africa, with regional promoters seeking partnerships to elevate athlete training and exposure. For Ghana, success at the WBC event could bolster youth engagement in sports and attract sponsorships for future talents. As the fighters finalize preparations, local fans await results that could signal a resurgence of the nation’s storied boxing legacy.
