Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Obeng, the Ghanaian couple whose pre-wedding photos recently went viral, have opened up about their unique journey and how they overcame the challenges of public judgment.
Their photos sparked an online conversation, receiving both praise and harsh criticism, primarily focused on their appearance. Despite facing ridicule, the couple remains unfazed, choosing to focus on their love for each other and the journey they have shared.
In an exclusive video with BBC Ghana, Isaac Obeng shared the story of how he met his wife, Agnes. The couple’s first encounter happened during Isaac’s evangelistic mission.
“I was doing my usual evangelism work when I met Agnes,” Isaac recalled. “I expressed my interest in her, and we exchanged contact information. At that time, she was in a relationship, but she told me her partner wasn’t serious about their commitment.”
Though romance didn’t blossom immediately, Isaac’s persistence paid off. “At first, Agnes wasn’t responding to my calls. I was the one calling, but she wasn’t reciprocating,” Isaac laughed, reflecting on the early days of their relationship.
“It wasn’t easy, but I kept trying. Over time, she started to warm up, and eventually, we began dating officially.”
Their pre-wedding photos, shared online by a friend, soon became a topic of discussion, often in a negative light. Isaac, who became the target of memes mocking his appearance, faced significant online ridicule.
“People said all kinds of things, but we’ve learned not to let it bother us,” Isaac said. “What matters to us is that we found each other, and that’s the true beauty.”
Agnes also shared her perspective on the backlash. “I think the photos were shared by a friend who might have been envious of our happiness,” she said calmly. “But we understand that people’s opinions don’t define us. We know our worth, and we’re just happy to be together.”
