There have been many arguments pertaining to the roles MPs are expected to play both in the House of legislators and in their constituencies.

Speaking to Newsghana.com.gh in an interview, she said most people are of the view that it is the responsibility of an elected MP to see to it that the educational needs of their wards are catered for among other things.

She said an MP is primarily supposed to help make good laws to benefit the country as a whole.

“An MP is expected to represent his constituency well in the house of legislators and to bring their needs to the floor of the House for them to be channeled to the right ministries. Also an MP is expected to help in the passing of good laws that will have positive effects on everyone”.

According to her, when MP’s are pressured by their constituents, it affects their general performance in Parliament thus some forget their purpose of being in the House of legislators and rather think of how to meet the demands in the constituency.

She has therefore entreated all to allow MPs to do their work without any pressure or interference.

She said it is not the responsibility of the MPs to construct roads but District Assemblies and therefore MPs shouldn’t be blamed if roads in the constituency’s are not constructed.

She concluded that people should give their MPs the needed space to serve them and the country as a whole.
